Ambrose "Bill" Diamond


Ambrose "Bill" Diamond, 75, peacefully passed away on the early morning of September 25, 2013 at Tendercare of Marshall surrounded by his wife and children.

Ambrose "Bill" was born on November 30, 1937 at home in Girard Township to James and Frances (Tobolski) Diamond.  He attended Tekonsha schools where he participated in the marching band and played football.  He was so dedicated that he would march at half time in his uniform! He graduated with the Class of 1957 from Tekonsha High School.  On January 14, 1961 Bill married Susan Gillem at St. Philip Church in Battle Creek.

"Ambrose" Bill was a conductor for the Grand Trunk Railroad for 35 years.  He retired in 2000.  After retirement he volunteered for the Binder Park Zoo Golf Course.

Ambrose "Bill" was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church of Marshall, and the St. Philip Catholic Church and St. Joseph Catholic Church of Battle Creek.   He ushered with his wife for years. He served for many years as secretary treasurer of the United Transportation Union Local #72.   He was also active with the 3rd degree council #5999 and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus #505 as well as volunteered with the Knights of Columbus at the Veterans Administration at Christmas time.  Bill really enjoyed golfing leading to him to his volunteer work at the Binder Park Zoo Golf Course!  He also liked to fish, bow hunt, watch football games, especially U of M, working on any project imaginable and being outdoors.

He is survived by his wife, Susan of Marshall; children, Richard "Rick" C. (Mary) Diamond of Holland, Amber "Amy" S. Keyes, and Mark J. Diamond both of Galesburg; 2 sisters, Barbara (Melvin) Blackwell of Tekonsha and Jane Baker of Sheffield Lake, Ohio; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald and Jerome Diamond, as well as2 brothers as infants; and a sister, Gertrude Kruszka.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 27 from 5-8PM at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home, 723 US 27 North, Marshall.  A vigil will follow at 8:00PM.  A funeral mass will be held on Sat. Sept. 28 at 12:00PM at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 61 23rd St N, Battle Creek, MI 49015, with Father Bob Creagan officiating.  The family would like to encourage for memorials in memory of Bill to be made to Oaklawn Hospice who they are so grateful of.  Burial will be held at a later date.  To leave the family a personal message please visit
