Betty Jane Canfield, age 87, a lifelong resident of Battle Creek died at Bronson Battle Creek on Monday, September 23, 2013.   She was born in Battle Creek on August 9, 1926, the loving daughter of Edmund E. and Myrtle May (Phillips) Freeman.  Betty worked at the old Bijou Theater in downtown Battle Creek, and at the George Rich Company.  She graduated from beauty school and then worked at Rujeunire Beauty Shop which was later Kenneth's (in Urbandale).  She retired in 1993.  Betty enjoyed bowling, reading, and spending time with her family and her grandchildren.

Betty married James H. Canfield Jr. on June 30, 1945 in Battle Creek.  She was preceded in death by Jim, her husband of 59 years on September 4, 2004; and three brothers, Mahlon, Carleton and Nelson Freeman.   Surviving are two daughters, Judith A. (Tom) Green of Battle Creek, Karen L. (Ken) Wright of Battle Creek; two sons, David E. (Carol) Canfield of Portage, Ronald J. (Margaret) Canfield of Battle Creek; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

Family will receive friends 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, Friday, September 27, 2013 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where services to celebrate Betty's life will be held at 12:00 noon, Friday with Rev. Robert G. Muirhead, officiating.  Interment will follow at Ft.
