Elaine Mary Ripley


Elaine Mary Ripley, 93,  died peacefully on Sunday, March 23, 2014.  Elaine was born September 2, 1920 in Jackson, the daughter of Arza Benjamin and Mary Ellen (Reardon) Crites.  She served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps in England and France during WWII.  Upon her return, she married Vern H. Ripley on January 31, 1946 and the two moved to Vermontville.  While raising 7 children, Elaine worked as a RN at Hayes Green Beach Hospital, where she retired as the Director of Nurses.  She enjoyed her time with the Kalamo Historical Society, and was a faithful member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Bellevue.  Above all, Elaine loved her family, especially gathering them together at her home on Holidays. 

Elaine is survived by her children; Sue Ellen (Terry) Yerge, Mary Louise Crisher, Patrick A. (Elizabeth Daly) Ripley, John Francis (Roxanne) Ripley and Karen Jo (Bill) O'Rourke; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Vern in 1967; daughter, Carol Anne Ripley in 1999; son, Michael Ripley in 1954, and brother, Lysle Crites. 

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Friday, March 28, 2014 at St. Ann Catholic Church, Bellevue, with Rev. Father David Rosenberg officiating.  Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 pm on Thursday, March 27, 2014 with a Rosary Service at 8:00 pm at Pray Funeral Home.   Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Bellevue.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Ann Catholic Church.  Arrangements by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
