Battle Creek

Ella Ruth Prince, age 80, of Battle Creek, died Tuesday April 1, 2014 at home.  Ella was born June 6, 1933 in Toomsuba, Mississippi to Lamar and Mary Ella (Roundtree) Smith and came to Battle Creek in 1951. Ella married Marvell Prince on March 2, 1955.  She had been employed at the State Home in Fort Custer until it's closing and 26 years at K-Mart before her retiring.  She then worked for the Battle Creek Public Schools as a  crossing guard and assistant cook.    Ella was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness.  She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking and entertaining, music, dancing and was known for her sense of humor and vibrant personality. 

Ella is survived by her daughter, Vera Prince of Battle Creek and Chicago, a son, Dennis Prince of Battle Creek, a sister, Mrs. Archie Richardson of MacClenny, FL, brothers, Will Smith and Rev. Lamar (Emma) Smith Jr. both of Toomsuba, MS, and Andy Smith of Memphis, TN. and a host of nieces and nephews.   

She was preceded in death by her husband Marvell Prince in February of this year, an infant son, Daryl Prince and her parents.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Monday at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, 223 N.
