JoAnn Stiner, 79, passed away at her home at Nottawa Lake Friday, April 18, 2014

She was born October 1, 1934 to Clyde and Jessie (Kendall) Schick in Marshall, Michigan.

JoAnn attended the one-room Houston School in Fredonia Twp. and graduated Marshall High School, class of 1952.

On June 15, 1952 she married Kenneth G. Stiner Jr. in Battle Creek and lived with his grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Mast in Lacey while Ken completed his tour of duty with the US Marine Corps during the Korean conflict. The couple raised their family of three boys and three girls in Marshall, Michigan. Ken preceded her in death December 26, 2012.

JoAnn was a stay-at-home mom while her children were small, then worked in retailing, eventually owning JoAnn's, a dress shop in Marshall. JoAnn was also skilled in upholstering furniture.

Her favorite pastimes were writing poetry, gardening, homemaking and doting on her grandchildren.

JoAnn is survived by her daughters, Wendy (David) Salazar of Placitas, NM, Debra Stiner of Perry, MI, Paula (Ray) Sullivan of Columbia, SC; sons, Kenneth G. Stiner III of St. Croix, Ben Stiner of Burlington, MI and Craig Stiner or Marshall, MI; 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Shirley Schick, Jeanette Groth, and Lois Munn of Battle Creek, MI and brother Philip Schick of Ceresco, MI; many nieces and nephews. Besides husband Ken, she was preceded by her parents and a sister Betty Katz of Pine Island, FL.

A memorial is being planned for a later date and cremated remains if both JoAnn and Ken will be interred in West Eckford Cemetery.
