Patricia "Patty" Ann Sears

Battle Creek

Patricia "Patty" Ann Sears, 59, of Battle Creek, MI passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014 following a brief battle with cancer.

She was born in Freeport, IL on December 11, 1954, the daughter of James and Cliffene McGrath.  Patty graduated from Aquin Catholic High School and received a degree in finance from Highland Community College.  She worked at Employment Group for the past 21 years as a payroll specialist and is remembered fondly by coworkers for her warm smile, dedicated work ethic, and generosity of spirit.  She also stocked her family's kitchens as a 12-year loyal employee and customer of Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

Patty enjoyed life.  Laughing with friends, country music, antiquing for "hens in a nest", concerts, casinos, and gardening filled her days.  She never met a stranger and she left each person just a little bit happier.  Her circle of friends is large and their support and love through her recent struggle is testament to the kind of person she was.

Her greatest love in life was her family.  Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Jessie and Tyler Curtis of Kalamazoo, MI; her parents, James and Cliffene McGrath of Freeport, IL; sister, Karen and her husband Chuck Tebrich of Columbia, SC; and brother, Mike and his wife Janin McGrath of Mollala, OR.  Her nieces, Courtney, Meghan and Audra McGrath and her nephew Steven and his wife Lorna Tebrich have fond memories of their fun-loving aunt.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Shaw Funeral Home, 2838 Capital Avenue, S.W.  The funeral to honor Patty will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 4, 2014 also at Shaw Funeral Home.  Pastor Josh Hydrick from 20th Street  Church of Christ will officiate.

Patty's family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Alain Fabi and the extraordinary staff of Bronson Methodist Hospital Neuro Critical Care Unit, Kalamazoo, MI.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider The Robert A. Fabi, M.D., Neuro Sciences Fund, C/O Bronson Health Foundation, 301 John Street, Box C, Kalamazoo, MI 49007.
