Pauline R. Lehman

Pauline R. Lehman Bellevue Pauline R. Lehman, 95 of Bellevue, died Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at the Laurel's of Coldwater. She was born September 28, 1917 in Nashville to Adolph and Theresa (Hemler) Douse. Pauline graduated from Nashville High School and married Carl M. Lehman on March 22, 1941. Along with husband Carl, they purchased the Volney O. Johnson Funeral Home in Bellevue and operated it as the Johnson-Lehman Funeral Home from 1940-1949. The couple operated it as the Lehman Funeral Home from 1949-1975. The funeral home was purchased in 1975 by the Shaw Funeral Home in Battle Creek and has been operated as the Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel in Bellevue since. The funeral home is the oldest continuously operated business in Bellevue, dating back to 1856. Like many small towns of their era, the Lehman's also operated a local furniture store in downtown Bellevue along with the funeral home for many years. Both Carl and Pauline continued to help with funerals for many years after retiring. Carl died November 25, 1997. Pauline was active in the Bellevue community for many years. She enjoyed writing poetry and published two books, "A Bit of My Heart" and "Launch Out Into the Deep." She also had poetry works published in many literary journals and magazines. She also enjoyed cooking and baking and each Christmas made a special cake she gave to family and friends. Her cake recipe was published in many cookbooks. She was also an accomplished oil painter and gave many paintings as gifts. Surviving are sons, Gary (Irma) Lehman of Coldwater and Brian (Deborah) Lehman of Bellevue, 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; brother Adolph Douse; sisters, Theresa Vecker, Agnes Scobey and Mildred Cuthbert. Visitation will take place 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Friday, December 28, 2012 at Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue and 10:00 - 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Evangel Christian Church, 1848 S. Cochran Rd., Charlotte where funeral will take place at 11:00 a.m, Rev. Bill Tate, officiating. Interment, Riverside Cemetery, Bellevue. Memorials may be made to Evangel Christian Church. The family is being served by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.
