Richard Alvin Harris

Richard Alvin Harris Battle Creek Richard Alvin Harris, 81, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Bronson Battle Creek. He was born June 12, 1932 in Jonesville, MI the son of Theodore Nelson and Stella Charlotte (Purdy) Harris. He served 20 years in the US Air Force and was honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant. Richard worked 16 plus years at the Battle Creek Federal Center before retiring in 1994. He was involved in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and became a Pack Leader and a Scout Master. He was a member of the Bedford Masons, Battle Creek Computer Club, American Legion Post #298, Disabled American Veterans, and the Air Force Sergeant's Association. Richard was a farmer at heart and loved his antique Ford tractor. He enjoyed feeding the birds and making cider with his family every year. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne; children Shelley Harris, Tammy (DeWayne) Harris-Anglemyer, Richard (Kelly) Harris and Patricia (Andrew) Harris-Riley; sisters, Betty (Tom) Kanonas and Joyce Chase; 8 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 27, 2014 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 28, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service. Burial will be at the Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI.
