Russell Robert "Russ" Baas

Russell Robert "Russ" Baas passed away on January 12, 2014 in Tallahassee.  He was 91.

Russell was born in Eaton County, Michigan. His family owned a farm and Russell grew up learning the many aspects of rural life. In later years he would often reminisce about helping his Dad and Mother run the farm along with his siblings.

After graduation from high school Russell enlisted in the Army Air Force and was stationed in the Philippines during World War II. After the war Russell moved to the Bellevue/ Battle Creek Mi. area where he worked for the Kellogg Corporation for 37 years.

Russell married Patricia Taylor ( Prior) on September 25th 1964 and this union lasted until her death in March of 2009.

He enjoyed golfing and bowling and it seemed like he could fix anything to those who knew him. In 1992 he relocated to Tallahassee and became an immediate Seminole fan.

He was of the Methodist faith.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Richard and Gladys Baas; sisters Ruth and sister Betty: grandson Jaime Rendon and son in-law Frank Curry.

Survivors include, step daughter Jan Taylor of Tallahassee and her husband Tom Long; daughter Pat Curry of Bellevue Mi. ; son Larry Baas of Chelsea Mi.; granddaughter Tamara Cornwell of Marshall Mi.; great-granddaughter Alexis Cornwell of Marshall Mi.; a host of nieces/nephews and devoted companion Rosi Shook of Tallahassee.

Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Pacifica Senior Living Woodmont where he resided the last two and a half years.

A memorial will be held at Woodmont at a future date and a celebration of his life at St. George Island.
