Walter E. Briggs, age 93, of Battle Creek, went to be with his Lord and Savior, surrounded by his loving family, Tuesday August 27, 2013 at Bronson Battle Creek.  Walter was born August 19, 1920 in Battle Creek to Raymond and Florence (Marihugh) Briggs and was a lifelong resident of Battle Creek and has resided in the same house for 73 years.  Walter was a 1938 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School.  He married Dolores Mae Eldridge August 4, 1940, she survives. Walter served in the US Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theatre.  Walter was employed by Post Cereals for 38 years, retiring in 1979.  He was a member of the Post 25 Year Club.  Walter was a long time member of Christ United Methodist Church; a member of the Men's Club and was active in the Sunday school. He also volunteered at the Salvation Army.  Dolores and Walter wintered in Florida for many years and volunteered at area nursing homes.  He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, and traveling. 

Walter is survived by his wife of 73 years, Dolores, a son, Steven E. (Kathleen) Briggs, of Dowling, a daughter, Sandra Sue (Kenwood) Adams, of Battle Creek, five grandchildren, six great grandchildren and two step great great grandchildren.  Walter is preceded in death by a sister, Florence Bloomfield, brothers, Floyd, Norman and Howard Briggs. 

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, 223 N. Bedford Rd. Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday September 3rd, at Christ United Methodist Church, 65 Bedford Rd.  Memorials may be given to the Christ United Methodist Church or the .
