Jeffrey M. McGinnis, 64, of Battle Creek, Michigan, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 8, 2017 at Bronson Methodist Hospital. He was born on October 13, 1952, the son of Hirschel McGinnis and Erma (Hobbs) McGinnis.Jeffrey was an All State graduate of Battle Creek Central High School in 1970. He attended Northwood Institute as well as Interlochen Music School.Jeffrey is survived by his two sons, Jeffrey (Sarah) McGinnis of Battle Creek, MI and Anthony (Maria) McGinnis; daughter, Lina McGinnis; two brothers, Kirk (Darlene) McGinnis of Stone Mountain, GA and Lowell McGinnis of Washington, DC; two sisters, Barbara Sears of Upper Marlboro, MD and Catherine Hodges of Portsmouth, VA and a host of nieces, nephews and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his Father, Hirschel McGinnis, Mother, Erma McGinnis.Jeffrey enjoyed singing, coaching, sports, trivia, history and was a Notre Dame fan. He was a member of the bands "Shades of Grey" and the "1952's". He has been a part of the BC Central athletic program in some capacity for nearly 40 years. He loved coaching football, wrestling and baseball. He was also a member of the MHSAA Coaching Association and was honored as an Assistant Coach of the year 2002. Visitation will be held at the Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service, 375 W. Dickman Road, on Sunday May 21, 2017 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.A celebration of Jeffrey's life will be held at the Battle Creek Central Field House, 162 Champion Street on Monday, May 22, 2017 at 2:00 pm. All day long I thought of you. A cold front was moving in, so I was outside taking pictures of the flowering items to catch a glimpse of what it looked like in case it freezes tonight. I kept thinking of you, looking at the clouds and knowing you are now in your heavenly home. I miss you, old and dear friend. I heard you twice in songs on the radio. I passed a car that looked just like yours on the road. We've five Baltimore Orioles this year (the bird, silly). If I told you that, I thought, you'd have to make SOME crack about having over half the minimum to field! I heard you laugh, I heard you sing.

I am just a fan of Jeff's, of his beautiful voice and his group, the Shades of Grey. I used to hear the group in Lansing at the Stardust lounge, and that is where I listened to my favorite song, his version of Stand By Me. The 70's were a great time to hear great music and his group was one of my very favorites. I live close to Grand Rapids but once I found out Jeff and the group played in Coldwater every year I made it a point to go. My condolences to his family. God must have needed a choir leader in Heaven.

Lowell: I've never met you or your brother, Jeff; however, I wanted to take the time to express my sincere condolences to you. I always tell my "hubby" that you were my email buddy for awhile, and that I enjoyed our correspondence!! (By the way, my account got hacked and taken over during that time, and I was never able to use it again!!). May the memories of your brother sustain you. I'm also very sorry to hear of your mother's passing, some time ago. I hope this messages makes its way to you.
