Robert Kerns Obituary

Robert J. Kerns Battle Creek Robert J. Kerns, age 73, of Battle Creek, died Tuesday December 7, 2010 at Battle Creek Health Systems. Bob was born February 26, 1937 in Kalamazoo, to Robert and Nelda (Umphrey) Kerns. He had served in the US Marine Corp. He married the former Suzanne Wilcox in 1960. Bob had been employed by the Kellogg Co. for 33 years, retiring in 1994. He enjoyed fishing, golf, wood working and had been a little league baseball coach. Bob is survived by his wife Suzanne, a daughter, Terri (James) Chapman of Battle Creek, a son, Bobby (Alexandra) Kerns, of Battle Creek, grandchildren, Jenny (Fredrick) Brickley and Laine (Brian) Lillibridge whom he raised, Jimmy, Chad, and Chelsea Chapman, Justin Peters, Chase, Logan, Jordan Kerns, Joe, Mike and Dan LaFountain, great grandchildren, Mya and Carter Brickley and Blake Lillibridge, sisters, Barbara (Larry) Fairbanks, of Taylor, Michigan, and Sally Hansen of Battle Creek, brothers, Thomas (Sandy) Kerns of Bellevue and John (Candy) Kerns of Battle Creek. Bob was preceded in death by his daughter Michelle LaFountain in 1987. The family will receive friends Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, 223 N. Bedford Rd. Memorial services will be held at the funeral home, 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Rev. Eric Perry officiating. Memorials may be given to the Humane Society. Please visit www.bachmanhebble.com.
