Alfred J. Dexter, age 80, of Lansing passed away July 10, 2016 at The Willows Assisted Living in East Lansing.

Alfred was born on November 20, 1935 in Lansing, MI to Alfred and Gwendolyn (Smith) Dexter. He graduated from Eastern High School in Lansing. Alfred entered into the United States Army on May 1, 1957 and served his country until his honorable discharge on May 11, 1962.

Alfred married Kathleen Dexter. They shared many loving years together until her passing in December of 2011.

After his military career, Alfred worked as a repair man for the Fisher Body Automobile Company for over 30 years, retiring in 1996.

Alfred enjoyed reading, hunting, and watching football and other sports on T.V. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Bellevue, loved playing cards, and had to watch the News on every channel. Alfred loved to socialize, he was always making new friends. He also cherished the time he spent with all of his many grand and great-grandchildren.

Alfred is survived by his daughters, Bessie of Lansing, Lorie of Lansing, Patty of Fowlerville, and Tina (Jim) of Lansing; son, Alfred Jr. (Kristin) of Fowlerville; 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; brothers, Howard (Sheri) of Lansing, and Bill (Jean) of Lansing; and sister, Arlene of Lansing. He was preceded in death by his parents; Alfred and Gwendolyn; wife, Kathleen; sister, Wanita; brother, Don; and granddaughter, Destiney.

Visitation will take place at the Kempf Family Funeral Homes, Lehman Chapel, 205 N. Elizabeth Street, Bellevue on Thursday July 14, 2016 from 5-7pm with family present to greet friends at that time. A funeral service celebrating Alfred's life will take place at the United Methodist Church in Bellevue on Friday July 15, 2016 at 1pm with Pastor Peggy Baker officiating. Interment will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery in Bellevue.
