Asa D. Swallows

Asa D. Swallows, went to be with the Lord on October 4th, 2016 where he will be reunited with his beloved wife Effie Mae, his son Asa Swallows Jr. and daughter Linda Collige.  He is survived by his loving children, Patricia (Jim) Lindley, Velma Faye (Richard) DePuy and Gary (Carolyn) Swallows; 16 grandchildren 32 great grandchildren and four great-great- grandchildren; and his siblings, Dewitt Swallows Jesse Swallows and Gusty Lee Strong. 

Asa moved from his birthplace of Overton County Tennessee to Battle Creek, in 1940, where he met Effie Mae Cox his wife of 61 years.  In 1943 Asa left Battle Creek to serve his country in WWII where he served with honors and survived the battle of the Bulge.  He returned to Battle Creek after the war where he eventually retired from Michigan Carton Power Plant as an engineer.  He was well respected in his community and truly loved by all who knew him.  He will be greatly missed. 

The family will receive friends from 6:00PM to 8:00 PM Thursday at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, 223 N. Bedford Rd.  Funeral services will be held, 11:00 AM Friday at the Potters House Church, 214 Capital Ave NE.  Interment with military honors will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens.  Visit Asa's webpage at www.bachmanhebble.com.
