Barbara M. Parker

Barbara M. Parker, age 92, passed away May 22, 2016 at the Bronson at Home Hospice Residence in Battle Creek.

Barbara was born on November 5, 1923 in Belding, MI to William J. and Mary S. (Sedlacek) Skopec. She graduated from Saint's Peter and Paul Academy in Ionia, MI in 1941, and then went on to graduate from Mercy College of Nursing earning her nursing degree in 1944.

Barbara was employed as a Charge Nurse at the Leila Y. Post Montgomery Hospital in the emergency department from 1945 until 1949. After that, she became an office nurse for the late Dr.'s D.L. Finch and D. B. Morrison.

Barbara married Fred Stephens Parker on October 14, 1950 in Belding, MI. They had 2 children and shared 50 loving years together. Fred preceded Barbara in death in September of 2001.

Barbara enjoyed traveling, reading, and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her 2 children, Cynthia (Scott) Hamilton of IN, and Mary Ellen Munoz of Battle Creek; grandchildren, Allison (Andy) Hamilton-Rule of IL, Elizabeth (Ryan) Comins of NB, Stephen (Stormie) Munoz of Battle Creek, Phillip Munoz of FL, Parker Munoz of Battle Creek, and John Munoz of Battle Creek; and 6 great-grandchildren. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary; husband, Fred; brother, John Skopec; and sisters, Emily A. Scheid, Mary Van Vleet, and Helen Brokora.

Visitation will take place at the Kempf Family Funeral Homes, Shaw Chapel, 2838 SW Capital Ave., Battle Creek on Thursday May 26, 2016 from 11am-12pm. A funeral service will follow the visitation at the funeral home at 12pm with Pastor Ralph Cates from Victory Life Church officiating. Barbara will be laid to rest beside Fred in Oakhill Cemetery.
