Beatrice Walters Obituary
Beatrice Mae "Bea" Walters

Beatrice Mae "Bea" Walters of Marshall, MI died peacefully in her home on Thursday, June 9, 2016.

Bea Walters was born on May 23, 1926, in Detroit to Clarence and Sarah (Paavola) Boyd.  She graduated from Marshall High School in 1944. On June 7, 1947 she married Richard C. "Dick" Walters in Marshall.  He preceded her in death on February 18, 2016.

The matriarch of the family, Bea was a home maker who raised her children and ran the household. When her children were grown and had their own families, she had fun with her grandchildren playing unique games and keeping up with everyone's activities.

While her husband was the boss at the office, Bea was in charge everywhere else.

Bea was an avid reader and always liked a good mystery. While she was mostly Finnish, Bea embraced her Indian heritage and greatly enjoyed Native American lore and decoration. Bea loved stories, meeting people, and was a world-traveler. A few of her favorite trips included Mexico, New Orleans, and the Danube River Cruise. She also enjoyed spending time with her family "Up North" at the lake.

Bea's favorite place was in the country, enjoying her natural surroundings. She loved bird watching, bear stories, and untamed gardens. Her house was fragrant with the smell of herbs and flowers she brought inside.

Bea was a strong, straightforward, sharp-witted, fun-loving, and beautiful mother, grandmother, and aunt until her final farewell. She is survived by her children, Martha Goben of Tekonsha and John Walters of Marshall; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister Audrey (Bud) Baker of Marshall.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Shelley Dirkse; daughter-in-law, Barbara Walters; sister, Jean Kelly; and brother, George Boyd.

Services will be held on Monday, June 13, 2016 at the Kempf Family Funeral Home Marshall Chapel, 723 US 27 North.
