Battle Creek

Billy "Bill" Lee Worthington, age 72, of Battle Creek passed away December 4, 2015 at Bronson at Home Hospice Residence in Battle Creek.

Bill was born on February 13, 1943 in Battle Creek to Charlie and Rosezella (Coleman) Worthington. He graduated from Lakeview High School in 1961 and then attended Barber College in Detroit. Bill worked as a Barber from 1962 – 2015 and owned his own Barber Shop; The Clip Joint in Battle Creek for 30+ years where he enjoyed numerous "jam and shooting the bull" sessions and occasionally cut hair. Bill married Martha ""Jane"" Ostrander at the Lakeview Baptist Church in Battle Creek on October 28, 1966. They spent 49 loving years together.

Bill enjoyed being President of the Wolverine's Harmonica Club for 20 years and performing in many parades and for residents in several nursing homes. He also enjoyed coaching softball for his daughters at the Wattles Park Men's Club, elementary up through 8th grade. Bill taught harmonica and guitar lessons. He was a wonderful teacher. Bill was a member of the Ceresco Baptist Church and loved cooking for the Men's Breakfast Group. He was an excellent cook and loved to eat. Bill was a friend to many and never met a stranger!

Bill is survived by his wife, Jane Worthington of Battle Creek; 2 daughters, Michelle Ann (Robert) Houtrow of Delton, and Lisa Marie (Amy) Armstrong of Peachtree City, GA; 3 grandchildren, Anthony and Emma Houtrow of Delton, and Sullivan Armstrong of GA; 2 sisters, Shirley Anne Harris of Battle Creek and Joyce (John) Wulf of TN; and several nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded by his parents; sister, Lee Ball; sister, Dorothy Fugate; brother, Chuck Worthington; 3 nieces and 2 nephews; and 2 grandnephews and 1 grandniece.

He will be remembered as a great husband, father, grandfather, friend and always had hugs for little old ladies.

Cremation has been conducted and a memorial service will take place at the Ceresco Baptist Church, 230 Marshall Street, Ceresco on Sunday December 6, 2015 at 3:00pm with Pastor Gary Schooler and Pastor Richard Schlee officiating.
