Mary

It's hard to believe that Bryan's gone. I'm so sorry, and I'm sorry I can't be there on Friday. I was talking with Dale the other day and he said that it might be nice to send you some memory I have of Bryan. Everyone seems to talk about his sense of humor, but for me it's more specific. Bryan has that crooked wry little smile, and you know how people talk about the “twinkle” in a persons eye. With Bryan it really existed. Just before whatever clever little thing was going to escape from his mouth the smile would turn up and the eye would literally twinkle, and the next thing you knew you were laughing.

I also remember that he would blush even easier than me. Denise seemed to be a master of making him blush. After the two of you started dating the barest mention of you would start him blushing. Denise would just laugh and walk away leaving him red faced and speechless.

So many of my memories of him are connected to gaming. All the nights we spent around the table gaming and acting foolish. There was always our core group; Bryan, Dale, John, and I. We spent so much time around the table wandering through worlds that only existed in our heads. Of course we had others that seem to flow in and out of the group; Sy, Bart, Tim, and others I know I'm forgetting. There were so many nights that something silly would start us off and before you knew it, we would be laughing hysterically, unable to stop or barely breathe. We'd all get ourselves under control and then someone, frequently Bryan, would say just one word and it would start all over. I miss that.

I met Dale and the guys at GenCon this year as kind of a reunion tour. I figured I spent my 30th and 40th birthdays there, so it only seemed right to spend my 50th there. It was great because I got to take my son Nathan and his friends and meet the “new guys”, but it was like taking the band back on the road without all the members. I guess I always thought that maybe someday...

If matter and energy can't be destroyed but only change state, then regardless of someones religious beliefs, Bryan has gone somewhere right? As I was driving to work yesterday I had this image of him sitting at a table with an unending two liter of Mountain Dew (not that diet nonsense), and a bag of Doritos and Sun Chips and Cheetos with his Minthar character sheet wondering why on the one day he's early we're all late. He's rolling the dice and smiling cause every roll is coming up a 20, and there's that twinkle in his eye again.

So maybe one day we'll get the band back together. Of course we'll have to let John DM (with the unbeatable NPC), and Dale will play a barbarian or maybe a ranger with a huge pile of Reeses next to him, and I'll bring Greywyn and the pretzels. We'll make sure the table's big enough for everybody so they can just show up when they can. I know he's saving seats for everybody.

Take care and I hope to be able to come visit soon. My thoughts are with all of you.

My deepest sympaties, to all.
Bryan and I kind drifted apart through the years, and had just recently gotten back in touch.
He is probably the oldest friend I had in the world, and I will always remember the times when we were kids, at the lake, among the other fond memories I have of him. I have many memories of ALL of you.
Prayers and Strength to you, all.
Bryan, hopefully, I will see you again when the time is right.
Rest your Soul, Old Friend.
