Burton Neff Obituary

Burton D. Neff Battle Creek Burton D. Neff, 87, of Athens, formerly of Battle Creek passed away Tuesday September 28, 2010 at Battle Creek Health System. He was born on May 18, 1923 in Blakesburg, Iowa to Clair and Hazel (Cloyed) Neff. Burton graduated from Bellevue High School in 1941. He served in the Army Air Corp during WWII as a Flight Officer with the 35th Fighter Squadron, 8th Fighter Group, in the Western Pacific. Burton married Ruth E. Hickey on May 29, 1943 in Rapid City, Iowa; she preceded him in death in 1961. He was employed by the Kellogg Company for 42 years until he retired in 1983. Burton is survived by his sons, Gary (Connie) Neff, of Nashville, and Bruce (Laurie) Neff, of Battle Creek, four grandsons, Matt (Chera) Neff, Darrin (Tricia) Neff, Kyle (Patty) Neff, and Jeremy (Robyn) Neff, 8 great grandchildren, a sister, Jackie (Calvin) Howard, of Battle Creek, and numerous nieces and nephews, his special companion for many years, Donna Cook, of Battle Creek, her children, Roger (Linda) Cook and Tim (Jackie) Cook, and their children,. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Donald "Norean" Neff, and Donna's son, Ben Cook. Burton traveled many years in his motor home, he was a member of the Good Sam Club and Kellogg 25 year Club. He served as treasurer of the Kellogg Retirees Club. At age 81, he took up playing the organ. He also enjoyed big band music, dancing, fishing, hunting, and watching TV westerns. A special "thank you" to his neighbors, Gary and Tina Vaughn for all your help and kindness this past year. In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held 1p.m. Friday October 1, 2010 at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Marshall. Memorial contributions may be given to Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice. Arrangements are by the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home.

Bruce and Laurie, and all Burt's Family. I took care of Burt when he was at Laurel's and I enjoyed and Loved him very much. I will never forget him , and the love his family showed to him. He has a wonderful family. And he was a wonderful man.
