Carlton J. Van "Colly" Meter Sr. Obituary
Carlton J. "Colly" Van Meter, Sr. Marshall Carlton J. "Colly" Van Meter, Sr., age 92 formerly of Albion passed away Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall, Michigan. He was born August 7, 1920 to Harvey and Ida (Beilfuss) Van Meter in Albion. On August 2, 1941 in Lansing, Michigan he married Dorothy Sharp who survives. Colly served in the Army Air Corp during WWII as a B-26 Pilot, was Battery Commander of the Albion unit of the Michigan National Guard and was active in the Albion Post of the American Legion. He was co-owner of Sharp's Evergreen Nursery. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time at their homes in Naples, FL and Grayling, MI where he could relax, fish and garden. Carlton is survived by: wife Dorothy of 72 years, children- Terrie Marks and C.J. Van Meter Jr.; grandchildren- Andrew (Annie) Marks, Aaron (Bonny) Marks, Carly and Christopher Van Meter; great-grandchildren- Evan, Emma, Joshua Marks, sister- Carolyn Peckham He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Donald and Vernon According to his wishes, Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will take place Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 100 Luther Boulevard, Albion with Pastor Dennis W. Matyas officiating. Burial of cremains will be held in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions to: D.A.V. (Disabled American Vets), 5500 Armstrong Rd. #77, Battle Creek, MI 49015. Envelopes available at the funeral home.
