Pennfield Township

Carlton S. Akers of Pennfield Township passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at his home. He was born on August 10, 1919, in Battle Creek, the son of George and Nina (Cook) Akers. Carlton was a lifelong resident of the Battle Creek and Bedford area. He was a 1937 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School and later from Western Michigan University. Carlton was a United States Army veteran of WWII serving in the Philippines and later served in the Korean War. He was previously employed by the Kellogg Company, retiring after 32 years of service. Carlton was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman.

He married the former Margaret L. Wright on July 24, 1951. She preceded him on June 8, 2010. He was also preceded by his brother Glen Akers and sisters Georgetta Hare, Martha Blunt, and Grace Wilson. Carlton is survived by his sister Annabelle Greene and his two children James and Mary Akers and his two grandchildren Christopher and Jared Hayes.

Visitation will be held from 10:00am to 11:00am, Tuesday, November 26, at the Pennfield Presbyterian Church with a memorial service beginning at 11:00am with Rev. Douglas Nettleton officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to the Pennfield Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are by Royal Funeral Home.
