Casmir Augustine Murillo, M.D.

Casmir Augustine Murillo, M.D. passed away peacefully at his home November 11, 2014. He was born in Belize City, British Honduras,  now  the independent nation of Belize. He was a graduate of Creighton University Medical School in Omaha, NE. He served a rotating internship and surgical residency and preceptorship at Leila Hospital in Battle Creek, MI. He served two years of residency in cancer and allied diseases at Western Massachusetts General in Westfield, MA. Upon completing this, he returned to Battle Creek and established a practice in general surgery and oncology. He was dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, single-handedly establishing the cancer chemotherapy unit at Leila and Community Hospitals. Medicine was his life. He became a proud United States citizen in 1961.

He was a member of Calhoun County Medical Society, Michigan State Medical Society, Fellow American College of Surgeons, Diplomate American Board of Surgery, and a member of American Medical Association.

He leaves his wife Ann; sons Alec (Kim) Murillo of Salem, MA,  Geoffrey (Sandra) Murillo of Granada Hills, CA, Ian Murillo (Erin) of Portage, MI, and Dennis Murillo of Granada Hills, CA; as well as three grandchildren, Isabelle, Casey, and Sadie. He is also survived by his sister Gweneth Gillett and his brother Bernard Murillo, both of Belize City, Belize, and many brothers and sisters in law, nieces and nephews.

He appreciated the hospice care of Mindi and Cherilynn.

Visitation Thursday November 13, 2014 from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm at Spencer Family Funeral Home Athens, MI. Rosary recited 7:30 pm by Deacon Al Bell and Deacon Gary Wright.

Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 am Friday November 14 , at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bronson, MI with Father Richard Fritz celebrant. Luncheon immediately to follow at the church.

The family has suggested memorial contributions be made to Grace Hospice, 2725 Airview Blvd., Suite 101, Portage, MI 49002.
