Charles M. Peet Battle Creek Charles M. Peet, 84, of Battle Creek passed away on May 22, 2013. Chuck was born on June 30, 1928, in Grand Rapids, the son of Charles E. and Hazel I. (McNabb) Peet. He was a United States Army Air Corps veteran of WWII serving from 1946-1948. Chuck was known to a lot of people as just "Peet" and many never knew his first name. Peet was a truck driver and loved his work. He enjoyed talking about his time spent in the service and the many miles he drove. He met many of his long-time friends through trucking. Peet always had time for a cup of coffee and a smoke and to share a memory, play a game of cribbage or share a story you hadn't yet heard. Chuck's family was very large and he would do anything for his brothers and sisters, whom he dearly loved. Chuck was a retired Teamster, a 32nd Degree Mason, member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite and American Legion Post #54. Chuck married the former Joyce A. Gray. She preceded him in 1995. Chuck is survived by his son Charles R. (Lois) Peet and his daughter Deborah McKinney, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He also is survived by his sisters Laura (Chuck) Monaweck and Bonnie (Phil) Cortright. Chuck also had numerous nieces and nephews, which every one of them was very special to him, and he made each feel very special because they were to him. Chuck's companion of many years, Sandy Conklin, and her family Lynn (Chris) Smith, Doug Conklin, four grandchildren and one great grandchild will miss him greatly. A special cousin, MarthaJane Stockreef, always had his attention and they always looked out for each other. Chuck had many extended family members which were also very dear to him and to whom he always extended himself. Chuck was preceded in death by his son Dale E. Peet, sisters Maxine Collar, Jean Stelma, Joyce Lawhead and Hazel Peet and his brothers William "Bill" Peet and Dale Peet. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Royal Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Royal Funeral Home with the family receiving visitors one hour before services.
