Charles Throckmorton Obituary
Charles M. "Chuck" Throckmorton

Battle Creek

Charles M. "Chuck" Throckmorton, age 80, died Tuesday morning, March 31, 2015 at the Laurels of Bedford.  He was born in Three Rivers, Michigan on July 10, 1934, the son of Jesse and Alice (McBride) Throckmorton.  Chuck retired from Battle Creek Public Schools after more than 35 years of dedicated service.

Chuck married the "Love of His Life", Joanne Anderson on May 14, 1960; she sadly preceded him in death on April 17, 2007.  He was also tragically preceded in death by his grandson, United States Army SSgt. Joshua A. "Josh" "Tex" Throckmorton who died serving his country in Afghanistan on July 5, 2011.  Chuck is survived by two sons, Mark (Kathy) Throckmorton and Michael (Phyllis) Throckmorton, both of Battle Creek; four grandchildren, Kayleigh, Tiann, Amber and Robby Jo; and great-grandchildren, Kylie, Abigail, Anya, Leah, Boudon, Isabella, Robert IV, Zoe and Devan.

Chuck was a dedicated member of the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 298 for many years.  He enjoyed watching the Detroit Red Wings, landscaping & yard work, woodworking, and music.  Chuck and Joanne volunteered countless hours at the American Legion Post #298 helping with Bingo and wherever else they were needed.  Chuck truly loved spending time with his family and friends, but most especially his children and grandchildren.

The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home.   Funeral services to celebrate Chuck's life will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 2, 2015 in the chapel at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens.  Family and friends will continue the celebration of Chuck's life with a luncheon at the American Legion Post #298, 228 N. 20th Street, Battle Creek, MI 49037.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the Southwest Michigan Veterans Relief Fund or the American Legion Post #298 Ladies Auxiliary.  Personal messages for the family and/or favorite memories of Chuck may be placed at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
