Darlene P. Groce, 80 of Battle Creek died May 29, 2013 at Bickford Cottage surrounded by family.

She was born December 22, 1932, the daughter of Floyd and Mable (Terwilliger) Pierce in Ingham County. After graduating from Bellevue High School she married the love of her life, Luman E. Groce.

Darlene was a loving mother and wife that prided herself on putting her family first. In her spare time she had many hobbies that she enjoyed such as gardening, quilting, walking, hunting, fishing, basket-weaving, playing cards, painting, knitting, crocheting, various needle crafts and playing musical instruments. Darlene had two major loves outside of her family. She had a love of animals, especially dogs and also she was a potter. Darlene enjoyed this hobby to the extent of having Luman build her a separate building on the farm for a kiln and workshop.

She is survived by her son, Ronald (Michele) Groce of Woodruff, South Carolina, daughter, Laurie (Dave) Cronk of Ceresco, son, Brian (Vicki) Groce of Battle Creek, son, Mark Groce of Lansing, daughter, Linda Matthews of Wyoming, daughter, Katrina Bowers of Battle Creek; brothers, Arthur "Art" Drake of Vermontville, Clare (Shirly) Drake of Lansing, Bruce (Joyce) Drake of Riverdale, Mel (Virginia) Drake of Fowler; 12 grand children; many, many great grand-children. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Luman in 1998; and grand daughter, Jessica Groce.

Family will receive friends from 10-11:00 a.m. Monday, June 3, 2013 at Shaw Funeral Home where a memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Pastor Kelly Hadlich of Battle Creek Friends Church. Memorial donations may be made to .
