David Borsum Obituary

David C. Borsum Battle Creek David Charles Borsum, 69, of Battle Creek, died December 26, 2010 at Good Samaritan Hospice Residence from complications due to a train/car accident. He was born June 11, 1941, the second child of Leslie and Thelma (Johnson) Borsum in Omaha, Nebraska. Dave moved with his family to Battle Creek in 1946 and was a graduate of Lakeview High School, attended Michigan Technological University and received an Associates degree from Kellogg Community College. Following college he continued to work for the Kellogg Company in a variety of positions and after 38 years of service, Dave retired as Manager, Logistics Support Systems and Inventory Control, Kellogg's, North America. During his work years for Kellogg's he was highly involved with the United Way and was a great advocate for sharing the wealth of the community for the benefit of all. In 1996 Dave became a founding partner of Quality Learning Systems International (QLSI), a company focused on evaluation and assessment of education, health care and business organizations; teaching cognitive thinking skills and materials distribution. During his retirement years he was able to lend leadership and management support to leaders in a number of countries serviced by QLSI. He is remembered by people in many communities for his great generosity and giving nature. Dave is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda (Jarchow) Borsum of Battle Creek; daughter, Leslie (Dean) Morton of Boulder, Colorado; brother, Jack (Marjorie) Borsum of Plantation, Florida; nephews, Tom Borsum and his wife, Jackie and their children, Scott and Janelle Borsum and Mike Borsum and his wife, Lynn and their children, Amanda and Stephanie Borsum. Many of David's family members live in the Reed City area where he spent summers working on the Joe Patterson farm. He always felt this time on the farm helped him to appreciate the values of rural community life. Dave was a member of and served on the Board of Directors of the National Management Association for eight years; a member of Rotary International and a Paul Harris Fellow, he also worked on Polio eradication (Polio Plus) in India; a member of the Battle Creek Country Club; a passionate advocate of the Second Amendment rights and a life member of the NRA; and enjoyed hunting, reading, and extensive world travel. Throughout his life he made family first and extended his friendship and help to many in need. His support for others never waivered as he faced a variety of health issues in the past few years. No visitation or services are scheduled. Memorial donations may be made and mailed to the Women's Co-op, 2055 E. Columbia Ave., Battle Creek, MI 49014 or the NRA- Civil Rights Defense Fund, 11250 Waples Mill Rd., Fairfax, VA 22030. Please add "In Memory of David Borsum" in the memo section. The family is being served by Shaw Funeral Home. www.shawfuneralhome.com
