David Heemsoth Obituary

David P. Heemsoth Battle Creek David P. Heemsoth, 70, of Battle Creek, formerly of Marshall, died on Monday, December 27, 2010, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. David was born on July 11, 1940, in Marshall to Lyle and Elva (Rocho) Heemsoth. He graduated from Marshall High School in 1958. In 1961, he married Doreen Mitchell. Their marriage ended in divorce. David worked as a sheet metal journeyman for 26 years with the Kellogg Company retiring in 1999. He also worked for Murray Engineering for several years, and a short time at Union Pump. David was a member of the Marshall Moose Lodge #676, and the National Rifle Association. When David was younger, he was a member of the Future Farmers of America, and he enjoyed raising beef cattle. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing. He also was an avid gun collector, and enjoyed going to gun shows. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Nick and Tammy Heemsoth of Marshall; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Jeff Dorton; two grandchildren, Kristin Dorton, Jacob Dorton; two step-grandchildren, Amy (Jeff) Barnes, Jason Bibler. He is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Judy Heemsoth of Marshall; two nieces, Julie (Pete) Corralez, and Joy Heemsoth. He was preceded by his parents. The family will gather with friends to celebrate David's life at the Marshall Moose Lodge at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 8, 2011. Family requests memorial contributions be made to the National Rifle Association. Assistance with memorials is available at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
