Dorothy J. "Judy" (Knight) Brown

Battle Creek

Dorothy J. "Judy" (Knight) Brown born in Battle Creek passed away February 20, 2016. She was 74.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George Clinton Knight and Dorothy (Putney) Knight (founders of the former Knight's Appliances), and a brother, George Knight.

Surviving are her children Jeff Reynolds (and husband, Lorenzo) of CA and Rob Reynolds of FL; brother, Bob Knight; sister-in-law, Betty Knight; nieces, nephews, granddaughter and great grandchildren.

Judy attended Hillsdale College and graduated with a BA from Western Michigan University.

While in college, she married Edwin Reynolds, That marriage ended in divorce and she later married Curtis Brown.

After graduating from college, she lived in Sarasota, FL for 6 years then moved back to MI. After marrying Curtis, she moved to Nashville, IN, where she lived for the next 25 years. While in Nashville, she was in Social Work and later was the Executive Director of the Brown County Chamber of Commerce.

She was secretary of Rotary Club of Brown County for 2 years and Club Service Director for 1 year. She was a member of the Professional Women's Organization and a member of the Governor's Task Force for Drug Prevention in Youth.

After moving back to Battle Creek, she was a caseworker for the Area Agency on Aging at Burnham Brook, and also for Guardian Finance and Advocacy.

She found working to help her clients improve their lives very rewarding, Judy retired in 2015. She loved making new friends and getting reacquainted with old friends in Battle Creek. She was a member of Unity Church in Battle Creek where she also served as Secretary of the Board.

A private Celebration of Life Service for Judy will held.

There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Judy's honor may be directed to the Humane Society of South Central Michigan, 2500 Watkins Road,

Battle Creek, MI 49015 or the Bronson @ Home Hospice, 166 Goodale Avenue, Battle Creek, MI 49017.  The Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care,
