Battle Creek

Edward John Herr, 83, of Battle Creek, entered into the arms of his Savior Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo, Michigan.

He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on October 26, 1929 the son of John and Margaret (Weber) Herr.

Edward was a 1947 graduate of De LaSalle high school in Minneapolis. He served in the United States Army serving at Percy Jones Hospital. He worked for Christman Screen Printing and Oliver Aviation. Edward worked as a materials manager for the high rise stacker storage system at Clark Equipment, retiring in 1984 after 32 years.

Edward was a passionate man of many interests and professions.  He was a member of many clubs including; Battle Creek Camera Club, Goguac Yacht Club, SPEBSQSA Barbershoppers, Irish Club and Clark Management Club.  He was a videographer and an usher at St. Philip Church. Edward enjoyed sailing and songbird carving and friday Bridge Club at Burnham Brook. Edward was a scout leader and little league coach at Minges Brook Elementary. He was a founding member of the Cameo Productions - Access Vision and on the advisory board for Marian E. Burch Adult Daycare Center.  Edward and his wife Phyllis enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to travel extensively throughout the United States and Europe, visiting Ireland three times.

He married the love of his life, Phyllis (Pritchard) Herr who survives.  Together they were blessed with three beautiful children; daughter, Kathy (David) Wood of Bellevue; sons, Michael (Barbara) Herr of Spring, Texas, Kevin (Phyllis S.) Herr of Battle Creek; 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren;  brother, Louis (Kate) Herr of Johnston, Iowa; sister, Mary Cooksey of Portland, Oregon.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother George Herr in WW II.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 6, 2013 from 2 until 4:00 p.m. and 6 until 8:00 p.m. at Shaw Funeral Home.  Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.

 Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday, October 7, 2013 at 10 a.m. with Fr. John Fleckenstein V.E., St Philip Catholic Church.  Interment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery.
