Eleanor Jean Reed

Eleanor Jean (Sharpsteen) Reed Union City Eleanor Jean (Sharpsteen) Reed, age 79 of Union City, passed away Sunday, November 28, 2010 at Maple Lawn Care Facility in Coldwater after a long illness. Eleanor was born September 1, 1931 to Paul and Helen Sharpsteen at home in Climax, Michigan. She married her first husband, Gary Hicks, Sr. in 1952 which ended in divorce. She then married Leamon "Woody" Reed in 1977. In 1986 she retired from Victor Plastics. Eleanor was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who kept herself busy with tending to the needs of her family. She also enjoyed gardening and sewing Eleanor is survived by seven children: Mary Guthrie of Burlington, Dora (Bob) Fast of Burlington, Don (Cyndi) Hicks of Sherwood, Marlene (Al) Avery of Mendon, Gary (Laura) Hicks of East Leroy, Mike Hicks of Coldwater, and Roberta (Joe) Wathen of Athens; 12 grandchildren and 4 step grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Woody; son, Robb Hicks; and two siblings, Freda Slager and David Sharpsteen. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 1, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Spencer Family Funeral Home in Athens. Funeral Service 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 2, 2010 at Spencer's with Pastor Kim Tanner officiating. Burial 11:30 a.m. at Fort Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Maple Lawn Auxiliary, Home Health and Hospice of Branch County or Meals on Wheels of Branch County.
