Etola Hope Marie SacharskiAlbionEtola Hope Sacharski, a proud Irish woman, age 98 passed away peacefully Sunday, June 5, 2016 at the Calhoun County Medical Care Facility in Battle Creek. Michigan. She was born April 6, 1918 in Split Rock, WI the daughter of John and Genevieve (Breed) Lacy.  Etola spend her formative years in Marion, WI, graduating from Marion High School.  She attended Oshkosh State Teachers' College where she met and married the captain of the basketball team, Jerome Sacharski, on August 2, 1941 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marion. Etola and Jerome moved to Albion, MI in the summer of 1942 where Jerome was employed as athletic director at the Starr Commonwealth for Boys.  Jerome subsequently entered service in the United States Army and was sent from camp to camp during WWII.  Etola and son, Michael, followed each new assignment on crowded troop trains across the south and southeast finally ending at Camp Blanding, Florida when Japan surrendered.  Etola and Jerome returned to Starr Commonwealth here they subsequently made Albion their life-long home. Etola was the consummate mother making sure her three boys were always provided for and behaved.  Her chocolate chip cookies and homemade chocolate sauce for ice cream sundaes became legendary. She measured her own success by the success of her sons.  She provided Jerome valuable support in his endeavors especially his pioneer role in the creation of Tee-ball (1956) that is now played across the nation.  Etola contributed the family treasury as a dedicated employee of Corning Glass for 25 years.  Etola was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome, in 2009. She was also preceded in death by her parents and 10 brothers and sisters; Genevieve, Frances, James, John (Jack), Everen, Germaine, Patricia, Mary Jane and Robert.

Surviving are 3 sons: Michael (Maryann) Sacharski of Honolulu, David (Barbara) Sacharski of The Villages, Florida, William Sacharski of Flushing, MI, 4 grandchildren: Scott (Sarah) Sacharski, Aaron Sacharski, Roberta (George) Sacharski-Bush, Steven (Samantha) Sacharski, 1 great-grandchild, Britton Sacharski and sister, Harriet ("Billie") Hoffman (Green Bay, WI).

Etola's family will celebrate her life with a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, June 13, 2016 at 11:00 AM at St. John Catholic Church 1020 Irwin Ave., Albion with Father Joe Gray officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Albion. The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday, June 12th from 1-5 PM at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Dr., Albion, MI and 1 hour prior to the service at church on Monday.
