Florence Helen "Flo" (Loyer) Hempsted, 86, of Battle Creek, went to be with our Lord on September 30, 2015 at The Heartland Medical Care Facility in Battle Creek after a long life of caring for many people and touching many people with her love, kindness, wisdom, and strength. Flo was born on July 27, 1929 to Clark and Lily (Moser) Loyer, in Eckford Township, MI. She was the seventh child in her family. Florence married Wayne Hempsted on October 31, 1946 and graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in June 1947 and then started her family. Florence worked for Ben Franklin in Battle Creek for 20 years. She also tended the bar at the Eagles Tavern and Victory Lane for many years and spent some time in Florida working at Kmart and a sewing factory. Flo was a table shuffleboard champ in the 1950's and 60's a single and a team. In her leisure time she was an accomplished seamstress and crocheted, a master at trivia games and crossword puzzles and enjoyed card games. She loved searching for bargains and treasures at yard sales every weekend. Florence was very devoted to her family and friends.

She is survived by her children Michael (Diane) Hempsted and Marsha (Donald) Tech both of Battle Creek. She also leaves her grandchildren Charlotte (Robb) Lewis, Tami (Duane) Garries, Michael Cody (Tiffany) Hempsted, Paulette Davis, Joe Hempsted, Keith (Jamie) Hempsted-Rogers, John (Kristi) Tech, Amy (Kevin) Darscheid, Mary Ann Tech, Craig (Kim) Rogers and Chad (Christine) Rogers. Florence is also survived by 11 great grandchildren, 13 step-great grandchildren and many great great grandchildren and two very close friends Betty Smith and Miss Pearl. Florence was preceded in death by her husband Wayne D. Hempsted, her parents and four sisters and four brothers.

Visitation will be from 4:00pm to 7:00pm Friday at Royal Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Royal Funeral Home with Rev. Brian Lutz officiating. Interment will follow at Reese Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the or the Leukemia Society/Michigan.
