Florence Carver Paterson

Florence died peacefully in her sleep at Maplewood of Marshall on May 31 at the age of 105.  She was born on October 7, 1909 in Yale, Michigan to James H. Martin and Martha Hastings Martin.  She graduated from Yale High School and attended  Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti for a short time before taking a teaching job in a rural school in Sanilac County.  She continued her studies at Eastern and Wayne State Universities.  She continued to teach for 37 years in Port Huron, Michigan, Perry, Iowa and Albion, Michigan.  She was an artist and taught art at her home for several years after retiring. She married Vincent Brobst in 1943 and he died in a car accident in 1945. He had two sons, Richard and Don.  She married Lloyd Carver in 1948 and they moved to their farm north of Albion in 1953.  They were married for 44 years until Lloyd's death in 1992.  She married Leonard Paterson, an old friend, in 1998. They had three years together until his death in 2001.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, her siblings, Ruth Northcott, Ross Martin, Robert Martin, her nephews, James, Jerry, Jack and Robert Martin, a niece, Suzanne Hollingworth and stepson, Richard Brobst.  She is survived by her daughters, Mary Lou Roberts and Monna Ayers (John), seven grandchildren, Michael Roberts, Mitchell Roberts(Gayle), Drew Hanlon (Lorrie) Tami Hanlon (Richard) Tori Paniccia, Heidi Wicks, Chip Hanlon,  twelve great grandchildren and ten great great grandchildren.  Florence loved playing bridge,  she was a member of the Duck Lake Country Club, ELT Club and the First Baptist Church. 

A Memorial celebrating her life will be held at the First Baptist Church, 908 Haven Road, Albion on Friday, June 12 at 11:00 AM with visitation at 10:00 AM. Burial of her ashes will be at a later date in Croswell, Michigan.  In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be made to the First Baptist Church , 908 Haven Road, Albion, Michigan.
