Freda M. Fatato-Hoebeke Battle Creek Freda M. Fatato-Hoebeke, age 81, of Battle Creek, MI, died Friday afternoon, May 25, 2012 at Oaklawn Hospital, Marshall, Michigan, following a long illness. Freda, the daughter of William and Ellen (Spry) Curry, was born on July 10, 1930 in Verdunville, West Virginia and moved to this area in 1962. She was a graduate of Lakin High School in Salem, WV and received her Master of Arts Degree from Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, MI. Freda worked at the American Locomotive Company in Schenectady, New York from 1951 until 1954. She served as a Pastor's Wife from 1954 until 1970. Starting in 1968 Freda began a 26 year career as a teacher at Bellevue (MI) High School retiring in 1994. She was a member of the Seventh Day Baptist Church of Battle Creek; Kellogg Jet Flying club from 1972 thru 1982 and a member of both the Michigan Education Association and the National Education Association. Freda enjoyed reading, sewing, crafts, travel and flying, but her passion in life was spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren. In 1948, in Schenectady, NY, Freda was united in marriage to Eugene N. Fatato, who preceded her in death in 1971. In 1976, she then married Donald F. Hoebeke, Sr. in Battle Creek and he preceded her in death in 1993. Surviving are two sons, Paul G. (Kim) Fatato of Battle Creek and Rev. Nicholas W. (Gina) Fatato of Boston, MA; her daughter, Mary Ellen Travers of Battle Creek; her foster daughter, Charlene (Bruce) Snyder of Battle Creek; a step-son, Donald Hoebeke, Jr. of Battle Creek; a step-daughter, Janet (Paul) James of Whitehall, MI; 14 grandchildren, Jessica Wilson, Eugene A. Fatato, Jami Walker, Kristi and Michael Travers, Andrew, Aaron, Natalie and Alexander Fatato, Jonathon and Kathleen Lyons, Rand and Shareena Burton and Ryan James; by seven great grandchildren, Taylor and Kyle Rivera, Korbin and Joshua Fatato, Caleb and Cash Wilson and Hayden Walker and by her brother, Claude R. (Josephine) Curry of Lorado, WV. Freda was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Faye Williamson, Marie Ronas and Irma Jean Hampton and two brothers, Cleve and Harrison Curry. The Funeral Service to celebrate Freda's life will be held on Tuesday, May 29th at Noon at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Battle Creek, with her son, Rev. Nicholas W. Fatato, officiating. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Interment will be in Viewland Cemetery, Schenectady, NY.
