George Howard, age 72, of Battle Creek, MI, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2013.  He was born February 2, 1941, the son of Gilbert Howard and Gladys (Shipp) Howard. George was a 1959 graduate of Spencer High School in Columbus, Georgia.  He was employed with the Battle Creek VA Medical Center, Eaton Manufacturing; working for 18 years until they closed in 1983.  He then worked for Eaton Manufacturing in Marshall for 2 years.  In 1985 he became employed with Kellogg's Co. where he remained until retirement in 2003.

George enjoyed bowling, fishing, and painting.  He loved spending time with his family and friends.  He was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church.

George is survived by daughter, Bonita Howard of Battle Creek, MI; sons, Victor Howard of Battle Creek, MI, George Howard II of Las Vegas, NV, Alvin Dyous of Rome, NY; grandson, Roderick Howard of Las Vegas, NV; brother, Gilbert (Brenda) Howard, Jr. of College Park, GA; sisters, Lucy Malisham of Fayetteville, GA, Patricia (John) Ross of Fayetteville, GA, Rosa (Doug) Meriweather of College Park, GA; former wife, Mandy (Alexander) Howard of Battle Creek, MI; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Quilbert Howard

Visitation will be held at Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  A celebration of life will follow at 12 noon with Reverend Timothy Troxler officiating.  Interment will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be directed to the -Southwest MI, 100 W.
