George A. Torrey, age 95,  died peacefully on Monday morning, August 4, 2014.  He was born in Cressey, Michigan on September 9, 1918, the loving son of George E. and Gladys Mary (Allison) Torrey.  George served his country as a member of the United States Air Force during WWII.  In 1980, he retired after more than 31 years as a Home Improvement Contractor.

George was preceded in death by two wives, Helen W. Torrey and Mary Mills.  He was also preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.  George is survived by two brothers, Earl (Dorothy) Torrey of Climax and Gene (Lucille) Torrey of Kalamazoo; two sisters, Helen Groux of Battle Creek, Mary (Hess) of Texas, Dorothy (Bill) Baird of Florida, and several nieces & nephews.

An accomplished wood worker, George never had to advertise and never had a dissatisfied customer.  He enjoyed fishing and was a life member of the VFW #565 and numerous other military affiliations.

The family will receive friends 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 8, 2014 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Robert G. Muirhead, officiating.  Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Memorials directed to the V.F.W. or the would be appreciated.  Personal messages for the family may be placed at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
