Gerald L. "Jerry" Milbourne Union City "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." Psalm 116:15 "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord."2 Corinthians 5:8 Gerald L. "Jerry" Milbourne, 77, of Union City, was ushered into the presence of his Lord and his heavenly home on Monday, December 2, 2013 at Bickford Cottage in Battle Creek. A celebration of Jerry's life will be held on Friday, December 6, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Factoryville Bible Church in Athens with Pastor Fred Goebert officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2013 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation Services in Union City, located 3miles east of M-66 on M-60, and on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the funeral begins at the church. Jerry was born in Jackson, Michigan on April 3, 1936 to Lester and Helen (Frey) Milbourne. He attended Jackson Elementary School and graduated from Burr Oak High School in 1954. He graduated from Greens Barber College in Detroit and did his apprenticeship in Athens at Charles Brown's Barber Shop. He then barbered in Battle Creek at Bob's Barber Shop, purchasing his own shop in Union City in 1958. With long hair styles came a change to Associated Truck lines in Coldwater and Kalamazoo in 1972. In 1989 he began his career as a supervisor at the Kellogg Company from which he retried at the end of 2000. In September of 1957 he was married to Ilene Williams of Athens. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ilene, his daughters; Debi (Mike) Haupt of Pinetop, AZ, Gail (Bob) Pliszka of Thornton, CO, Amy Weeks of Aurora, CO, his son Jeff (Karen) Milbourne of Newaygo, his eleven grandchildren; Shannon, Kolleen, Melissa, Andrew, Ashley, Amanda, Zach, Ben, Matthew, Morgyn and Kelcie, and his four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Jerry was a very dedicated runner and in his running career he ran and finished 5 marathons including the Boston Marathon in 1986 and 1987. He was a member of the Factoryville Bible Church where he served on the church board, Missionary Committee, taught Sunday school for 25 years and was the moderator of the board for several years. He also served on the board of Child Evangelism Fellowship (C.E.F.) of Calhoun/Barry counties for several years.
