Gladys Lux Obituary

Gladys Mae Lux Marshall Gladys Mae Lux, age 99, passed on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at the Laurels of Galesburg. She was born in Union City, MI on April 20, 1911, the daughter of George R. Washburn and Nellie I. (Cummings) Washburn. Gladys married Ellis Fred Lux on March 30, 1929 and together they had seven children; Doretha, Leo, Wanda, Sue, Dorla, Mary Ellen, and Michael. She and Ellis both graduated from Union City High School. They made farming their lives and did so in Union City, Newton Township, and finally on a farm north of Fulton, MI. On December 6, 1974 Ellis passed on and Gladys lost her husband of 45 years. She then moved to Marshall House Apartments on East Spruce Street in Marshall, MI. Here she added bingo and cards to her long list of enjoyments which included: roses, crocheting, knitting, furry animals and Hershey Kisses. Gladys' greatest pleasure was holding babies and that is how many a friendship started. She was a mother, a grandmother, a great grandmother and a great-great grandmother to many. Gladys outlived her three brothers: Ray, Rex and Carl Washburn. Carl died in 2009 days after celebrating his 100th birthday. She also lived with the loss of a daughter, Wanda Pease, and son, Leo Lux. In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at graveside. Inurnment will take place at the Riverside Cemetery in Union City, MI. A family celebration of Gladys's life will take place in April 2011 which would mark her 100th birthday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Laurels of Galesburg in Gladys's name. Arrangements by Spencer Family Funeral Home, Athens.

Gladys was one of the sweetest women. I really enjoyed her positive attitude in Bible Study. She will be missed.

Glady was full of life and energy and spirit.......she had a big heart and it was contageious and she is going to be missed a great deal but she is in the best place there is and she is in peace..........rest her soul she is a very loved human being and will reamain in many of our hearts for time to come.

Gladys was a great and happy person!! She loved music and being around people!! We will miss her wonderful smile and all her stories!! She added joy to the Laurels of Galesburg!!
