Gloria M. VanHoose Obituary
Gloria M. VanHoose Battle Creek Gloria M. VanHoose, 83, of Battle Creek, Michigan passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2015. Gloria or "Glo", as many knew her, was born on April 6, 1931 in Portsmouth, Ohio. She married Harlan Eugene VanHoose, Sr. on March 1, 1948. Later they moved to Battle Creek. Gloria was a homemaker, who took care of anyone or anything she could get her hands on. She had a love for children like no other. It didn't matter if they were her own children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, or the many children she fostered over the years. She also had a soft spot for german shepherds. Gloria had a love for bargain shopping which included garage sales and shopping at Goodwill. She would just beam over the treasures and good deals she would find. Gloria loved seafood, especially coconut shrimp from Red Lobster. Although she believed in ordering dessert first in case she got too full. You could often find her all dolled up for a night of dancing with her friends at Burnham Brook. She was a beautiful, yet spunky social butterfly. Gloria was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Harlan Eugene VanHoose, Sr., her sisters, Hazel Hale, Mrytle Newkirk, Peace Tingley, Dorothy Newkirk, Ruth Howard, her brothers, Tony Sloas and Cecil Sloas, and later her special friend, Wilson McLeod. Surviving are her four children, Harlan Eugene VanHoose Jr., Sandy (Tom) Smith, Lindy VanHoose, and Terry (Deb) VanHoose all of the Battle Creek area; her former daughter-in-law Debby (Billy) Parks of Exmore, VA; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; special nieces Naomi "Twink" (Monte) Shewman, Beth (Jim) Norman, and Hazel Leisring; nephews John Tingley and Dan Howard of Cincinnati, OH, and many other nieces and nephews throughout Ohio. Funeral services to celebrate Gloria's life were held 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 20th, 2015 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. Interment was held at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Goodwill Industries, Humane Society of South Central Michigan, or one's choice. Personal messages to the family can be made at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
