Gloria Volstromer Obituary
Gloria Ruth Volstromer

Battle Creek

Gloria Ruth Volstromer, age 77, of Battle Creek,  died on Tuesday morning, June 4, 2013 at her home with her family by her side.

Gloria was born on May 11, 1936 in Marshall to Clifford Eric and Alzada Lucille (DeCant) Weers.  She grew up in the Convis Township area and graduated from Olivet High School in 1954.

Gloria was married to Eugene Volstromer on September 26, 1953 in Olivet.  That date will be remembered as the start of a fruitful and loving marriage partnership between Gene and Gloria.

The couple first lived in Marshall Township and Battle Creek areas before making their home on their farm they purchased near Bellevue in 1958.  They resided in the Bellevue area until moving to Sunset Lake near Iron River in Michigan's upper peninsula after their retirements in the early 1980's.   She and Gene enjoyed their home on the lake until moving to a farm near Branson, Missouri in the early 1990's.    The couple returned to this area in the mid-1990's and have lived here since.

She had worked outside of her home at a dentist's office and then the Great Lakes Bank in Bellevue (from 1976 to 1986).  In the early 1970's Gloria drove school bus for the Bellevue Public Schools.   She was a hardworking and devoted homemaker and mother.  Her husband Gene always touted her as the hardest working woman he knew, always able to use their very well kept home as an example!

The long UP winters while they lived at Sunset Lake resulted in Gloria creating many cross stitch items and beautiful quilts that could take up to a year to create.  She liked to fish and hunt with Gene.  Golfing was a favorite hobby!  Gloria's children gave their parents a golf trip to Myrtle Beach, SC to celebrate their 50th Anniversary together.  They had a wonderful time and even got to enjoy Myrtle Beach Bike Week which happened to be going on at the same time!

Gloria enjoyed many trips with Gene around the country visiting their daughters.  She will be remembered by her family as a wife and mother who always put her family and others needs before her own.

Surviving Gloria are her beloved family, her husband Eugene, their daughters Betheny A. Pierce of Anderson, SC and Gina K. (Dave ) Isard of Brooklyn, and their son Craig Eugene Volstromer of Marshall, 4 grandchildren Randy L. (Heather) Wood of Eaton Rapids, Zachary M. (Rhonda) Pierce of Anderson, SC, Michael S. Wood of Vero Beach, FL, and Martina Jean Dupertuis of Brooklyn, 2 great-grandchildren and her brother Clifford LaMarr  (Marvel) Weers of Marshall, and nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

Very special friends who shared good times with Gloria are Alice, LouAnn, Julia, Marvel, Sue and Debbie.

Friends may call at Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home, 723 US27 N., Marshall on Thursday from 2PM-8PM with family present to greet friends and share memories from 2PM-4PM and 6PM-8PM.  Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held at Kempf Funeral Home on Friday at 11AM with Rev. James Codde as the Celebrant.  Interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Garden.  A fellowship will follow that back at the Kempf Funeral Home's Reception Hall.  Memorials may be made to the Cancer Center at Bronson Battle Creek or Hillsdale College or Oaklawn Hospice.  Help with memorials is available at Kempf Funeral Home.  To sign the on line guest book and leave the family a memory visit www.kempffuneralhome.com.
