Born on November 27, 1953 in Vicksburg, Mi, Gregory Mark Lewis passed away on the evening of February 27, 2014 in Jacksonville, Fl. He was preceded in death by his father, Gilbert Charles Lewis, and his mother, Joanne Prestage Lewis.
Mr. Lewis served honorably with the Marine Corps as an Aviation Electrician and Drill Instructor over the course of 10 years. He served in Beaufort, SC, Okinawa, Japan, and Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. Mr. Lewis also served in many capacities as a civilian employee of the US Federal Government, and retired in 2010 as a Supervisory Program Manager managing various logistics projects.
Mr. Lewis is survived by his wife of 33 years, Wendy Scatterday Lewis, son Eric (Kelly) Lewis, daughter Erin Lewis Regis (Tom), and daughter Karen Lewis Hastings (Sam). Mr. Lewis is also survived by his 9 grandchildren, whom he often called by number, Ashleigh Lewis (1), Jordyn Lewis (2), Khriestieenia Regis (3), Nathan Lewis (4), Zachary Regis (5), Joshua Hastings (6), Kami Regis (7), Jacob Hastings (8), and Zander Regis (9). Mr. Lewis is survived by his brother Vinson Lewis (Dawn), sister Lorraine Lipscomb (Michael), brother Gilbert Lewis (Kathy), and numerous nieces and nephews.
During his years of retirement, he enjoyed camping in his RV with his wife and spending time with his family. Mr. Lewis enjoyed watching his grandchildren, whether it be playing sports, in the band, or "just being the dorks they are" (as he would put it). He will be missed by all, as his smile instantaneously brightened the room, and his sense of humor brought a smile to everyone around him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gregory M. Lewis Memorial Fund. This is a fund that the family established to benefit Melanoma and Cardiovascular research at the Mayo Clinic where Mr. Lewis was last treated. The funeral service will be held Friday, March 7, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Hardage-Giddens Rivermead Funeral Home, 127 Blanding Blvd Orange Park, FL 32073, (904) 264-2481. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM at Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Jacksonville Memorial Gardens, Orange Park.
