Gwendolyn M. (Rampton) Oglesby Gwendolyn M. (Rampton) Oglesby, 87, died Friday, June 22, 2012, surrounded by her family. She was born January 3, 1925 to Effie Van Note Rampton and Frank Rampton in Mason City, Iowa. Gwen graduated from Mason City High School in 1943 and attended the University of Iowa from 1943 to 1944. She married Floyd C. Oglesby, her high school sweetheart and love of her life, on December 10, 1945. Gwen graduated from Kellogg Community College in 1973 with an Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene. She was a Dental Hygienist for Dr. Richard Rivard in Battle Creek from 1973 to 1984. She was a member of the Southwest Dental Hygiene Society of Michigan and the American Dental Hygiene Society. Gwen was a member of the Battle Creek Faculty Wives, Battle Creek Area International Relations Committee, and Battle Creek Community Chorus. She enjoyed traveling, music, reading, bird watching, crossword puzzles, walking, and family. She especially treasured her time with her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The last five years of her life were spent at Sunrise Assisted Living of Cascade, Michigan. The family would like to acknowledge her wonderful friends and the staff at Sunrise. We would like to thank them for their love, care, and respect. Gwen will be forever remembered for her warm and compassionate personality, ability to listen and she could always be trusted to keep a confidence. Her beautiful smile was a ray of sunshine that would brighten any room. Gwen is survived by her four daughters: Julie (Greg) Hoelscher of Holland, Jo-Ellyn (Steve) Holt of Broomfield, CO, Jill (Barry) Dehlin of Okemos, and Mary Fenske of Grandville, fifteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, and her sister Betty Lou (Ken) Johnson, of Newton IA. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Floyd C. Oglesby, her parents, her brother Robert Rampton and two great grandchildren. The family will welcome friends from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, June 28, 2012 at the funeral home. Friends may make memorial contributions to Battle Creek Community Foundation.
