Hazel J. Shrubb Battle Creek Hazel J. Shrubb, 94, of Battle Creek, died at Schaffer Senior Residence on Monday, April 1, 2013. She was born May 8, 1918, in Bedford Township to Wilbur and Eliza (Richmond) Jones. After her adoption on June 18, 1927, Hazel was raised by her adopted parents, Frank and Addie (Wood) Meech. She graduated from Battle Creek Central High School and Mullinex Business College. In 1982, Hazel retired from the Engineering Department at Clark Equipment Company, where she was employed 18 years. Previous to that she was employed at Bill Woods Auto Service, Stevenson Photo Lab and the Kellogg Co. Hazel was formerly married to Bernard Sperry. She married William E. Shrubb in Battle Creek on September 29, 1949. Hazel was preceded in death by Bill, her husband of 58 years; and a son-in-law, Michael West. Hazel is survived by three daughters, Karen L. (John) Allan of Millbrae, CA, Sandra J. Shrubb of Battle Creek, Patti I. Celestina of Santa Rosa, CA; two sons, William E. (Coni) Shrubb, Jr., Denver L. Shrubb all of Battle Creek; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandson. Hazel was a member of First Christian Church and a former member of First Congregational Church. Hazel played violin with the Battle Creek Symphony for 15 years, from age 11 through age 27. She was a member of the Clark Management and Birthday Clubs. Hazel enjoyed traveling, knitting, crocheting, sewing, gardening; and loved attending Community Concert and the Battle Creek Symphony. Friends will be received by Hazel's family 3:00-5:00 p.m. Thursday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. Funeral service will be officiated by Pastor Kingery Clingenpeel at the funeral home 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 5, 2013. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
