Howard Lloyd Bishop, 86, of Battle Creek, passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Heritage Assisted Living. Born December 4, 1928 in Flint to Lloyd and Fannie (Burchett) Bishop, he joined the US Navy when he was 17. Proudly serving aboard the U.S.S. Joseph P. Kennedy from 46-49, he traveled all over the globe. Howard was also the lucky man who was able to marry his high school sweetheart Gladys Smith, on December 21, 1946 in Newport, Rhode Island. Upon retiring from the Navy, he and Gladys returned to Battle Creek to raise their family where he worked at Kellogg's for 20 years. A longtime member of Redemption Lutheran Church, Howard was an avid outdoorsman and storyteller who loved his family dearly.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys; children, Daniel (Sara) Bishop, Susan Barber, Kathleen (George) Morris, Mark (Jana) Bishop, Patricia (Doyal) Little, and Mary Ann (Daniel) Fay; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy Girke and Helen Plane; brother, Homer Wade; and grandson, Michael Bishop.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 16th from 5:00-8:00 PM at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 17th at 11:00 AM at Redemption Lutheran Church, with burial following at 1:00 PM at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI.
