Ian C. "Ike" Conklin

Springfield

Ian Cleath "Ike" Conklin, 86, of Springfield, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at Bronson Battle Creek. Ike was born on May 9, 1927, in Battle Creek, the son of Fred and Ella (Sabin) Conklin. He served with the Seabee's in the United States Navy during WWII. When Ike returned to Battle Creek he worked for the City of Battle Creek for a short time before joining the Calhoun County Road commission as a heavy equipment operator and foreman. He retired after 35 years of service. He enjoyed fishing and deer hunting and was a member of American Legion Post #298. Ike married the former Alice Fern Babbitt on August 22, 1948. She preceded him on February 16, 2008.

Ike is survived by his children Sam (Becky) Conklin of Bellevue, Toni S. (Ed Dillon) Hill of Springfield and Larry (Anne) Conklin of Augusta. Ike also leaves 11 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren. Ike was preceded by his son Mike Conklin on November 18, 1983, his son-in-law Joe Hill on July 9, 2008 and 10 brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be from 2:00pm to 4:00pm on Sunday at Royal Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am, Monday, September 30, 2013 at Royal Funeral Home. Interment will be at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to American Legion Post #298.
