Jack E. Smith Battle Creek Jack E. Smith, 78 of Battle Creek died February 11, 2013 at Good Samaritan Hospice Residence in Battle Creek. He was born May 8, 1934, the son of Morell and Violet (Zender) Smith in Fostoria, Ohio. Jack graduated from high school in Fostoria and then began his long career in the insurance business. During his self-employed career he won many awards and more importantly many friends. Jack was a loving family man with a charming personality, dry sense of humor, and extremely competitive. He enjoyed going to the gym and he decided to become a certified personal trainer. Jack also played tennis and cards, traveled to Gulf Shores Alabama for many years and also was a big fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes. Jack is survived by his wife Billie; sons Eric (Donna) Smith of Battle Creek and Aaron (Donene) Smith of Fostoria, Ohio; daughter Kim (Steve) Dandurand of Fostoria, Ohio; step-son Dr. James J. (Debbie) Doty of Omro, Wisconsin; step-daughter Dawn (Joseph) Carlin of Oxford, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Phyllis Lind. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Shaw Funeral Home where funeral services will take place 12:00 noon, officiated by Father Francis Marotti of St. Philip Catholic Church.
