James Lee May

Battle Creek

James Lee May, age 85, of Battle Creek, died Saturday July 2, 2016 at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital.  Jim was born June 20, 1931 in Kildav, Kentucky to Moss and Florence (Ferrell) May and came to Battle Creek in 1963.

Jim had been employed by the Bishop Furniture Co, and retired from Eaton Manufacturing Co after 15 years of service. During his retirement, Jim worked for the Battle Creek Floral Exchange.  Jim was a committeeman and proud member of the United Auto Workers and a member of the Masonic Lodge.  He played golf in Eaton's golf league and leagues at Oakland Hills; he also enjoyed playing pool and going to garage sales.  Jim was a friend to everyone he met, and was always willing to help at the "drop of a hat".  He was a friend who would listen and never judge.

Jim is survived by his wife of 65 years, Edith May, sons, Garry (Janice) May of Rockford, MI, and Larry (Denise) May of Colorado Springs, CO.  He was a wonderful grandfather to, Ryan, Nicole, Alexander, Joshua and Kyle May, and enjoyed his eight great grandchildren.  Also surviving are brothers, Herman (Lavonne) May and Henderson Lester (Rose) May both of Battle Creek.  Jim was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Louise May and Dorothy Caswell, brothers, Shelby, J.D, Charles and J.C May.

The family would like to thank the Battle Creek Bronson Cancer Center and Battle Creek Bronson Hospital staff, and their wonderful neighbors and friends. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, 223 N. Bedford Rd.  Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be given to the or the Andrus St. Church of God.  Visit Jim's webpage at www.bachmanhebble.com
