Janet Lou Bonner


Janet Lou Bonner, age 72, formerly of Battle Creek, MI, died Friday morning, November 1, 2013 at the Mid-Michigan Medical Center of Midland, following a lengthy illness.

Janet, the daughter of Maurice A. and Mary E. (Hogarth) McCann, was born on October 26, 1941 in Battle Creek and was a 1959 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School.  She attended Kellogg Community College and began a career as a secretary at Community Hospital where she worked for 29 years. After that she worked at several area businesses including Stouffer's Hotel, Felpausch Grocery, and Cereal City until she lost her eyesight.  She liked to listen to music & sing, enjoyed the sun & swimming, cherished the holidays, and most of all she loved spending time with her family--they were her life.

Surviving  are her children, Kathy (Al) Barnhart of Tustin, MI, Robert W. Bonner, Jr. of Tustin, MI and Karey Unversaw of Indianapolis, IN; three grandchildren, Stephanie Bonner, Danielle Unversaw and Tony Case; two great grandsons, Nigel Lockett and William Case;  a brother, Mike McCann of Freeland, MI; a brother-in-law, Dan Messenger of Battle Creek, MI, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and  great nephews and Stephanie & Tony's mom, Patty Case of Battle Creek, MI.  Janet was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Joan Messenger and two brothers Bill and Bob McCann.

The Graveside Service to celebrate Janet's life will be held on Tuesday, November 5th at 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery, 2435 W. Territorial Road, Battle Creek.  Friends will be received on Monday, November 4th from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Battle Creek.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Janet's honor may be directed to the or the .
