Janet L. Markus Paw Paw Janet L. Markus, age 80, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2014 at Alamo Nursing Home. She was born October 31, 1934 in Battle Creek, the daughter of the late Joseph C. and Minnie O. (Schill) Burgie. She was a graduate of St. Philip High School, Battle Creek Class of 1952. Janet was employed at the Paw Paw Branch of Standard Federal Saving and Loan and later as a secretary for St. Mary's Catholic Church, Paw Paw, where she was a member. She was a secretary and retired from the Van Buren Intermediate School District. Janet enjoyed , knitting, sewing, bowling and loved cooking for her family. Janet and her husband, Bob, were co-founders of Paw Paw Thanksgiving Community Dinner. On May 3, 1958 in Battle Creek, MI, Janet was united in marriage to Robert C. Markus who preceded her in death on May 17, 2005. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Joan Parker and 2 brothers, Richard and Joseph Burgie. Surviving are 4 sons, Robert J. (Jillonne) Markus of Maumee, OH, Joseph H. (Diane) Markus of Sturgis, MI, Michael P. (Suzanne) Markus of Gobles, MI and Gregory A. (Penny) Markus of Waterford, WI; 2 daughters, Barbara Ann (David) Gerhard of Portage, MI and Nancy L. Markus of Kalamazoo, MI; 12 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; brother, Robert Burgie of Charlotte, MI; many nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends Sunday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw where a vigil service with Rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday November 10, 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Paw Paw with Rev. Fr. Joseph Xavier and Rev. Fr. Don Potts concelebrants. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Paw Paw.
