Jewell Kaufman Obituary
Jewell May (West) Kaufman

Collegedale, TN

Jewell May (West) Kaufman, age 91, of Collegedale, TN, and formerly of Battle Creek, passed away peacefully December 2, 2015, holding two of her son's hands, with other family present and listening to her favorite Christmas carol.  She was born march 20, 1924 in Fulton, MO, to Claude and Ruby (Sheets) West.  She married Stanley Kaufman, former staff reporter for the Battle Creek Enquirer and News, on December 25, 1946 in Fulton, MO.

Jewell is preceded in death by her husband Stan and parents, Claude and Ruby Wells.  Jewell is survived by her eight children, Jerome (Nancy) Kaufman of Issaquah, WA, Janet (Al) Lui, of Rolling Hills Estates, CA, Gary (Sue) Kaufman of Collegedale, TN, Barbara (Brad) Peterson of Rancho Sante Fe, CA, Deborah Kaufman and Melinda Poluk both of Chattanooga, TN, Karl Kaufman of Battle Creek, Kurt (Lynn) Kaufman of Albuquerque, NM, 22 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren.  Jewell is also survived by her sister Mary Ann West and brothers Gene (Helen) West, of Fulton, MO, and  Donald (Virginia) West of Albany, GA.

A veteran, Jewell served in the Navy as a WAVE during WWII.  Stan and Jewell met after the war while attending the University of Missouri.  Jewell loved her Savior.  She was a Seventh-day Adventist Christian and a member of the Battle Creek Tabernacle.  Devoted to her family, nothing made Jewell happier than visiting with them and catching up on what was happening in their lives.  Reading, and writing letters and her memoirs were some of her favorite pastimes.

A graveside service will be held in her honor at a later date at Fort Custer National Cemetery.  Rest in peace, dear one.  We look forward to seeing you again on that bright getting'up morning when our lord shall return to welcome us home.   Arrangements are by the Bachman  Hebble Funeral  Service.  Visit Jewell's webpage at  www.bachmanhebble.com.
